Ranulph Bye

(American, 1916 - 2003)

Born in Princeton, New Jersey, the watercolorist Ranulph Bye studied at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art (now Philadelphia College of Art), and the Art Students’ League in New York. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the American Watercolor SocietyAllied Artists of America, the Philadelphia Water Color Club, the American Watercolor Society, and the Salmagundi Club in New York. He was the author of Victorian Sketchbook (1980), Ranulph Bye’s Bucks County (1989), Painting Buildings in Watercolor (1994), and Ranulph Bye’s Collection of Old Firehouses (2000). Bye taught at the Moore College of Art and Design for thirty years. Best known for his rural Pennsylvania landscapes, Bye was a Bucks County regionalist who was closely associated with the art colony in New Hope.
