Max Eglau
(American born Bavaria, 1825 - 1896)
Max Eglau immigrated to the United States from Bavaria and settled in the lower east side of New York City. He was a highly respected Hudson-River School painter and teacher in New York City including grammar schools and Cooper Union, and exhibited at the National Academy of Design. Tragically Eglau’s life ended by murder in his classroom at the School for Deaf Mutes in New York City in February 1896.
