John Durrie, Jr.
(American, 1818 - 1898)
John Durrie, Jr., the elder brother of the noted artist George Henry Durrie (1820–1863), was born in Hartford, Connecticut, where he lived for the majority of his career painting landscapes, still-life subjects, and portraits. He studied briefly with the engraver and miniature painter Nathaniel Jocelyn (1796–1881) in New Haven in 1839.
