|Name: ||Thomas Bigelow Craig|
|Dates: ||(1849 - 1924)|
|Biography: ||The primarily self-taught landscape painter Thomas Bigelow Craig was born in Philadelphia, where he may have studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; he exhibited there from 1869 to 1891. He moved to New York City in 1889 and became a regular exhibitor at the National Academy of Design (he had exhibited there since 1879). He was elected an associate member of the group in 1897. Craig also exhibited at Brooklyn Art Association, the Boston Art Club, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Society of Independent Artists. He settled in Rutherford, New Jersey, in 1899. Craig died at his summer studio in Woodland, New York. |
Craig painted scenery all along the East Coast, but most of his landscapes represent Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
