Arthur Edward Blackmore was born in Bristol, England, the son of a painter. He was known for his landscapes, urban views and murals. Blackmore was a member of the Salmagundi Club and exhibition at the National Academy of Design and the Society of Independent Artists. He was also the art director for Steinway & Sons the well-known makers of pianos.
This view depicts High Bridge, the oldest bridge in New York City, above the Harlem River, roughly parallel to the end of West 174th Street. The bridge is now open to pedestrians and bicyclists and maintained by the Department of Parks and Recreation.
