Inscribed at lower left: "D. J. Kennedy"
Inscribed in ink on verso: "Sketched April 20th 1886/and presented to Mr. Jos. G. Fogg/by D J Kennedy/Philadelphia/April 6.1887."

Boyd's Business Directory, (1858;1898) lists Joseph G Fogg as an undertaker at 16th and Race; a 1917 advertisment in Friends Society publication mentions SW corner. The building depicted is probably Fogg's location.

The building is located on "Western Friends Burial Ground" which is the current site of the Friends Select School.
