Artist: Helen Young
Title: Forest Abstraction
Media: Oil on canvas, 26 1/4 × 18 3/8 inches
Description: Signed lower left: “Helen Young”

Helen Young was born in South Otselic, New York, and lived in Mount Vernon. Active during the 1920s and 1930s, she was a member of the New York Society of Women Artists and the Woodstock Art Association, and exhibited with the Society of Independent Artists, the National Association of Women Artists, the Salons of America, and the Art Institute of Chicago. One source states that works by her are in the city hall of Dinan, a town in Brittany, France. Certainly the style of this landscape, which reflects the influence of Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) and Robert Delaunay (1885–1941), suggests that the artist was sympathetic to French Modernism.
