Francis Van Vreeland was born in Seward, Nebraska,
and studied at the Académie Julian in Paris with Otto‑Walter Beck
(1864–1954), Vincent Nowottny (1854–1908), and George B. Bridgman (1864–1943).
He moved to Hollywood, California, in the 1920s and remained there until his
death. Van Vreeland was highly regarded for his floral paintings and was a
member of the California Art Club, the Artists Council of Los Angeles, and the
Art and Education Committee of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.
