| Biography: | Lewis Roberts Dougherty was born in Philadelphia, where he studied art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts under the noted illustrator Howard Pyle (1853-1911), and at the Drexel Institute. Dougherty was known for his portraiture, landscapes, and illustrations, but he was primarily a sculptor. He exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy from 1899 to 1915, and 1919 to 1923.
