Born in 1946, Scott Cameron is a contemporary American artist working in the tonalist and luminist styles. Cameron grew up in Long Island, New York and later attended Long Island University where he practiced visual arts and studied under Willem de Kooning (1904–1997). He furthered his education by studying architecture and painting at the Pratt Institute. Cameron began to pursue painting seriously in 1982 and focused mainly on maritime work. He later moved to Delaware and found inspiration along its shores. The Delaware River became a frequent backdrop in his maritime works, which portray 19th century steam vessels. These works are done in a style nostalgic of the classic 19th century maritime tradition.
