The landscape painter George W. Drew was born in New York and studied with John Califano (1864–1946) and Henry Pember Smith (1854–1907); the latter had a strong influence on his work. A member of the Society of Independent Artists, Drew exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Allied Arts of America, the Salons of American Independent Artists, and various other places. He was active in New York state and New England, and his most significant undertaking was a mural for the Travers Island Yacht House in Mount Vernon, New York.
