Daughter of the Philadelphia artist couple Giovanni Martino (1908–1988) and Eva Martino (b. 1929), Nina Martino was born into an extended family of painters. She attended the Moore College of Art and Design at the age of ten, and continued her art education at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, a diploma from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy, and a master of fine arts degree from the Instituto Allende at the University of Guanajuato, Mexico. Martino’s landscapes are typically calm, simplified views of Philadelphia and its industrial suburbs on the Schuylkill River.
