Little is known about the Philadelphia illustrator Frank Hamilton Taylor. A graduate of Haverford College, he was a member of the Philadelphia Sketch Club and exhibited at the Boston Art Club. Works by Taylor are in the collection of the Athenaeum of Philadelphia.

Torresdale, an area in Northeast Philadelphia on the Delaware River, along with Holmesburg to its south and Andalusia to its north, was once the city's most affluent suburban neighborhood and the site of many luxurious riverside estates.
