The landscape and still-life painter James Morgan Lewin was born in Swansea, Massachusetts. He was active in Providence, Rhode Island, until 1864, when he moved to Boston, where he exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum in 1859 and 1860, and at the Boston Art Club from 1875 to 1877. Lewin died in Milton.
