This model is of a Philadelphia-style, double-deck hand engine that was used by the Franklin Fire Company. The condenser box is decorated with a bust portrait of Benjamin Franklin on one side and Franklin flying his kite on the other. The label of the noted Philadelphia engine maker Joel Bates (who was in business from 1827 to 1844) is attached to the underside of the model.
