Embossed with tanner’s mark [?] twice on front and bottom: “J.R.T.”

RS 6314

Although this green leather, Philadelphia-style fire bucket bears the date 1829 painted within a white banner, the rounded sides, wider diameter, and double seam stitching suggest that it was probably made in the mid-eighteenth century and reconditioned in 1829 by its then-owner S. Hatch. The lack of ornate decoration is typical of mid-nineteenth-century fire buckets. This example is missing its handle.
