Jan Michael Ruyten was born in Anvers, where he spent most
of his life. He studied with Petrus Johann van Regemorter (1755–1830). Working
in watercolors as well as oils, he painted landscapes, marines, architectural
views, interiors, and historical works. He exhibited in his native Belgium, Vienna,
and London, winning numerous prizes. His works are in museums in Anvers, Courtrai,
Königsberg, Stuttgart, Toulouse, and Trieste.
