Biography: Antonio Pietro Martino was born in Philadelphia in 1902. He studied at the Pennsylvania School of Industrial Art with Albert Jean Adolphe, the Spring Garden Art Institute, the Graphic Sketch Club, and the La France Institute, all in Philadelphia. Until 1971 when he moved to California, Martino lived and worked in Philadelphia and Newtown Square, Pa. Early in his career he concentrated on landscape scenes along the Darby Creek and on the Delaware River above New Hope, Pa. Later, he painted views of Manayunk and various East coast subjects.

When he was twenty three, Martino had two works accepted at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Annual Exhibition and a year later was the youngest painter in the United States to win the Bronze Medal at the Sesquicentennial International Exhibition. He was elected to the National Academy of Design in New York in 1942 and became a member of the National Arts Club, New York, and the American Watercolor Society, New York. His work is contained in collections of the Reading Museum of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Wanamaker Gallery, Philadelphia. A major retrospective of his work entitled "Antonio Martino, A Retrospective" was held at the Woodmere Art Museum in Philadelphia, in 1982.
